Our trip to Houston was rough…something we never expected. We lived in Houston, so we know the way to Houston, our way around Houston, and how long it takes to get there and back. But this was rough. As y’all know, we broke down multiple times on the way down, even causing Matt to have to do repairs on the van just right where we were, including the shoulder of I45. SO SCARY. Our kiddos were making the most of it by getting all of the semi-trucks to honk their horns for them as they passed us. It will be a wonderful memory to look back on eventually, despite the situation and location we were in. Right there, though, on the side of that scary highway, a couple stopped to check on us. They god out and talked to Matt, making suggestions on what might be the problem, telling him of a certain part he might want to look into. They then asked him if he had the money for the part. I don’t know whether he said yes or no or even answered at all, but we honestly did not…we were down to $15, enough to get us the rest of the way there and get us to the job we had lined up. I saw the woman go to her truck and then she came to me in the van and handed me $45. All I could do is thank her and she said, “God has been good to us. He always provides.” “Amen!” I said. Then she told me that she is trying to always tell people that, “Jesus is coming soon and we need to be ready.” “Amen!” again, I said. Right before they left, the man came over to Matt, shook his hand, and handed him another $100. Matt just melts and cries. Incredible! I don’t know their names or ANYTHING else about them…As a matter of a fact, they could have been visiting angels, sent to lift and assist us by God, but just the same, THANK YOU!

While in Houston area, we were blessed by a number of others. We had a man at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts walk up to Matt and hand him $20, telling him, “I hope this helps you on your journey.” We also had the Associate Pastor of Nassau Bay Baptist looking out for us, offering a place to sleep if the van would not get us home, as well as finding every bit of work he could for us to do in order for us to survive the time there. While in the area, we were having to pull our work trailer around, causing us to need to get lights hooked up on the van. We went to the U-haul in League City, trying to get the lowest price possible. We decided on the hourly rate, but it seemed as if it were taking the man a really long time to finish the job. When he was done, though, he handed over an extension wire to make the light cord reach from the va to the trailer, which would be extra, I am sure. Matt asked him how much we owed him and the man said, ” Nothing.” Matt thought maybe the man might have thought we already paid, so Matt told him, ” I haven’t paid at the counter yet. What do I owe?” The man said, ” Noth ing.” We got it. WOW! Turns our he was the owner and he TOTALLY had the power to do that. Also,  we have thank the parents of our daughter-in-law, the Rodriguezes, for giving us $130 for our trip. So awesome! Lastly, this may seem somewhat small, but I think it applies as a lesson in not judging others…We literally stalled out at a stop sign at one point, totally stuck there with our trailer in tow. We were just about to push it in order to get it out of the road when a truck backs up in front of us and offers to pull us over to the street just around the corner so we would be out of the way. He was very helpful, because as soon as we moved it out of traffic, a (sorry) not-so-friendly officer told us to “Hurry and move it or I’ll have it towed.” If that man had not stopped, we would have been in trouble with that officer. The part of not being judgemental comes in when we saw the man and his truck. He had long, messy hair, tattoos, and a bumper sticker with the “F” word on it. Just goes to show God will use everyone for our good and His Glory. Thank you to all of these unknown people for being the hand of God to us in our time of need.
