After spending a crazy and fun time with the Hill’s and their large family, we headed to Lee, FL to Midway Baptist Church, with Pastor Matt and Devin Thompson. But on the way there, we spent a few nights at Lake Panasoffkee between Bradenton and Lee.
This was such a beautiful and restful place! We were right in our element, setting up camp and cooking on our grill and on a flaming campfire! We so enjoyed that time, even though it was FLORIDA HOT!!! Cold camp showers, lamps with dead batteries, and using the headlights to light up the area….wouldn’t trade it!
Also, before we got to Midway Baptist, we were invited to go to Sirman’s Road Baptist Church by Deacon Johnny Carroll for Matt to preach on a Wednesday night. Deacon Johnny is Devin Thompson’s grandfather and a huge part in the spiritual growth of her husband Matt. He is a strong man of God. They were so kind and inviting, letting us stay inside of the church. They served us a hot meal more than once and just took wonderful care of us!
Soon after, we headed to Matt and Devin’s, just 20 miles up the road. We were blessed to be able to stay in the church while there, no tent set-up necessary. We enjoyed our time with Matt and Devin so much! Pastor Matt is wise beyond his 30 years and has a strong heart after God. And Devin strives to be a wonderful helpmate for her husband, strong mother to her children and an honest leader to her church.
On Monday nights, they have a home Bible study for couples that may not actually go to Midway Baptist regularly, if at all. We were so blessed to be able to join them for that! Great food and great time in God’s Word! We made many new friends.
One of the couples we met was Brynne and Katie Wetherington. They were then engaged to be married. Katie and Matt and Devin had worked and prayed so hard for Brynne to come to salvation through Christ. That night after Bible Study, Matt and Brynne met at the table for the first time. Matt started sharing his testimony, his faith, his reasons for traveling to share the Gospel and all that God saved him and us from. They talked for about an hour while the rest of us just patiently waited and hung out in the living room, sneaking a listen to their conversation. God is so good! We heard Matt call Pastor Devin in there to pray with Brynne and he accepted Christ into his heart and life right there! God is SO GOOD!!! They are now married and living for Christ.
We loved our time in Florida. It is a beautiful place, for sure! Can’t wait to see it’s beauty again, but for now we are off to Savannah, GA.
