From Utah, we were sent to Aztec, New Mexico. Aztec Baptist Church was without a Pastor and Pastor Warneke felt that Matt would be good for the church, as they had no one to preach regularly for them.

We met with Deacon Dan Lyons, who is working hard to keep the church going in spite of its struggles. He has a wife, Jenny, and 5 kiddos: 4 girls and 1 boy, in that order. They were a great family who cooks a mean pork rib and steak fries! We enjoyed getting to know them and sharing meals with them very much.

When we arrived at the church, there were many tumbleweeds that had overgrown around the building. Matt and the boys saw the need to clear them up, which we know can be a hard thing to get done with a small church that is short of hands to do so.

One of the days there, I called the fire department to find out if we would be allowed to burn up the weeds when they got cut down and dug up. They said yes and gave us the rules for doing so. From there, they all got to work! They tore out and lit up every weed and limb they could find. And as you can see in the the pictures here, it was a lot and the flames were high! It was a fun task, though. they really enjoyed the clean-up on that property. Look at the before and after pictures and you will see the difference it made!

We were also treated to Sunday lunch by a couple from the church named Karen and Gary. They were such a blessing to us! They had some work they needed done around their home and were kind enough to hire the boys and Matt to do the work. They blessed us in this way, as well as in fellowshipping with us. We always appreciate the time we get to spend with other Believers.
